Relocating to a new city is a big decision, and if Phoenix is on your list, you probably have some questions. We get it. We’ve been helping buyers relocate to the Phoenix metro area for over 20 years, and having relocated here ourselves, we know firsthand what it’s like to make this move. Phoenix can be an amazing place to live, but it really depends on what you’re looking for.
So let’s break it down. Here are the real pros of moving to Phoenix, and there are a lot of them.
The sunshine is hard to beat. If you love being outdoors, Phoenix delivers. We’re talking about 300-plus sunny days a year. That means a very active lifestyle all year-round, whether you’re hiking, golfing, biking, or just enjoying your backyard pool. There’s always something to do, especially early in the morning before the heat picks up.
The housing options are incredibly varied. From modern condos to luxury homes, golf course communities to family-friendly neighborhoods, there really is something for everybody at every price point. And compared to places like California or the Pacific Northwest, many buyers find they can get more home for their money here in the Phoenix metro area. Prices have gone up over the last couple of years, but they’re still affordable compared to those other markets.
Phoenix is growing, and it’s growing fast. We’ve been seeing people move into Maricopa County for the last 30 years, and the growth keeps going. New restaurants, shopping, job opportunities, and infrastructure are constantly expanding. It’s an exciting time to be here.
Now, here are a few things you’ll want to consider before making the move.
The summer heat is real. Triple digits are the norm from about June to September. That’s not a surprise to most people, but it’s worth saying out loud. The good news is that everything here is built for it. Air conditioning is strong in every home and building, restaurants are designed to stay cool, and honestly, you adjust more quickly than you think.
The Phoenix metro area is spread out. Depending on where you live, commuting times can vary quite a bit. It is a driving city. There isn’t a great subway or light rail system that covers the whole valley, so be prepared to drive. That’s why choosing the right area is so important, and it’s something we help our clients with every day.
The desert landscape takes a little getting used to. If you’re coming from a place with lots of greenery and water, the landscape will look different. There’s a lot of brown. But many people end up falling in love with the mountain views, the cacti, and the stunning sunsets. And there’s actually more green here than most people expect.
And yes, there’s desert wildlife. We do have things like scorpions, coyotes, and the occasional rattlesnake. But it’s not like they’re everywhere. Most neighborhoods are well-maintained, many homes have pest control, and there are simple precautions that make those encounters pretty rare. Once you understand the environment, it just becomes part of living in the desert. For some perspective, Sharon has lived here for 24 years and has never seen a rattlesnake, not even on a hike.
At the end of the day, Phoenix offers an incredible lifestyle, but like any move, it’s all about finding the right fit for you. If you’re thinking about relocating to the Phoenix metro area, we would love to be your resource and help guide you through the entire process.
